REFLECTIONS
______________________________
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Over the years, people have often asked me about my compositions, my influences, my creative process, and what inspires me to write. While music itself remains the most truthful answer I can give, I have gradually realised that there are certain ideas and beliefs that have shaped everything I compose.
These reflections are not academic essays, nor are they intended to explain how music should be written. They are simply personal thoughts born from a lifetime of composing, listening, performing and collaborating with remarkable artists from many different cultures.
At the heart of all my work lies a simple conviction: music is, above all, a profoundly human language.
It has the unique ability to express what words cannot, to cross borders without translation, and to unite people who may never share the same spoken language. Whether writing for the concert hall, the theatre, the ballet stage or the cinema, I have always believed that technique should serve expression, and that beauty, melody and emotional honesty remain among the greatest gifts music can offer.
We live in an age of extraordinary innovation, and I welcome every sincere artistic voice. Yet I also believe that progress does not require us to abandon what has moved human beings for centuries. Beauty is never old-fashioned. Melody still speaks directly to the heart. And music has the power not only to surprise us, but also to comfort, inspire and remind us of our shared humanity.
The pages that follow are simply reflections on some of the ideas that continue to guide my work as a composer. They are not presented as universal truths, but as personal observations gathered throughout a lifetime devoted to music.
If these thoughts encourage you to listen a little more deeply, to hear familiar music in a new way, or simply to reflect on why music matters so profoundly in our lives, then they will have fulfilled their purpose.
Thank you for reading.
